So one of the Ladies has invited, almost everyone out to lunch in the City. As usual, something which I now except, I was not invited and did not know about it. 2 colleagues on my team have kept very quiet about it and yesterday suddenly got up and announced that they were off. My Manager then asked them where they were going to? They told him that they are going to lunch in the city. Although he let them go, he wasn't at all pleased because no one bothered to tell him what was going on. So I suppose they had a 3-4 hour lunch, which was fine, if I have a lunch that is 10 minutes over, I get called up and spoken to about it. Makes me sick!
My Senior colleague has been away for the past 2 weeks on leave, and I have done all the work myself. My Manager was impressed with this and I think he know realises what I do because we have not had 1 hiccup since my senior colleague has been away. My manager told me that I am doing a "Superb" job. I really feel bad because I have been offered a job from one company and have 2 interviews today. And I will definitely be taking 1 of the 3 jobs, this I know!
I didn't have the opportunity to tell you that I have decided not to pursue the Microsoft course been offered for free by my company. HR came in on Wednesday to distribute an application form for the course, which asks for ethnicity, if you have children, age, driver's license or passport details, and a whole lot of personal questions. This is the point that I realised that HR are getting this course for free, because I know of a similar scheme that was being run at my other half's company, paid for by the EEC. Cheap skates! S
o I told HR that I would not be doing the course because of the questions that they were asking. They didn't even bother to encourage me to do it (because they are not paying for it), they just said OK and left it at that! It reminds of the time when I asked my manager about doing exams, he asked me "Why do I want to do these exams?". What a forward thinking company!

The Theatre
Well what can I say. the topic this morning was theatre tickets so the Receptionist reckons that they should organise a work thing to go to watch a couple of shows because once you book more then 10 tickets it becomes cheaper. She feels that it doesn't matter if you don't sit next to each other.
A male work colleague said "Well I wouldn't want to sit next to you.!". So she turns round and says and "I'm sure you are not the only one". I second that! So the complaint girl asked "So you would book and pay and we would give you our money?". So she turns round and says, "Oh no I'm not that trusting anymore! I want money upfront now, not going to make myself out of pocket!".
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Let me think now! Do you think that was directed at me? I do sit next to the work colleague that didn't want to sit next to her, and I am in clear ear shot of where she was standing. Even if she dropped a pin I would hear it.
"No never! The Receptionist is not like that!" she would never have directed that at me. WHATEVER! Get a life sweetie your 30 going on 6!

Monday Continued.........
So the Receptionist has approached my boss and told him that I owe her £1 because she had to pay for my bit of the donation. My boss has in turn approached me and asked me to pay her. I find this totally offensive as he did not even bother to ask me my side of the story, he has decided to take her side as gospel truth!
I told him that there was no way that I was going to pay £1 as I did not participate in any games, nor did I agree to give any money to anyone for any reason. So as it seems, I am being forced into giving money to charity. I don't know if this the policy of the Read Nose Day campaign, or the policy of our company. I told the Receptionist that I had donated my £1 directly to the charity, and my manager has informed me that the Receptionist is the nominated "Charity Co-ordinator" for my office, so all charity money needs to go through her. Well, that means that I will not be donating any money to charity through the company. Another work colleague is organising a charity walk, which the Receptionist is not attending, does this mean that any money raised should be handled by the "Charity Co-ordinator", who is not attending? Or does this rule apply to me only?
I won't tolerate anyone's rubbish so I walked away from my boss while he was still talking and he shouted after me that I shouldn't make an issue out of this, because it is not an issue. I still can't believe that he called me to his desk to discuss £1. If my Manager was so concerned about the £1, he should have pulled it out of his wallet, and given to charity.
I promised myself that I would not allow her into my space and she somehow has managed to get in there, and also infuriate me. I have to get out of this place! She will try any tactic to upset me or have a different opinion to me.

Some Problem, Different Approach
Last week Friday was Red Nose Day. For those of you that are unaware of Red Nose Day, it's the day that funds are raised, for Charity, to help children in the UK and Africa. They operate various schemes to get individuals, groups and businesses involved in donating money. Because the UK is a very much a "lottery" nation, they have employed similar tactics when designing these games. There is nothing wrong with that at all!
So our Receptionist has taken on the role to get promotional material for an office game. The basic idea is that you donate some money and some goes to charity while some goes into a sort of lottery draw with an eventual winner in the office. This game is run as a voluntary thing and if you join in, then you can win something while donating to charity.
Not to level criticism at Red Nose Day, because I think that if anything, they are raising awareness of the issues affecting poor African children, I have never known of anyone benefiting from money raised in the poorest and troubled African Countries! Red Nose does a lot of PR work showing their work in stable, democratic African Nations, the same ones that receive loads of grants from the World Bank, EEC, and various 1st world countries to do what Red Nose raises money for.
Anyway, I did not participate in the game because I am from Africa, and I know most aid and charity in Africa is abused by Government officials. I actually support Marie Curie Cancer Care who do a sterling job of looking after terminal ill Cancer patients in the UK, something that the NHS neglect! I had the Receptionist come up to me and demand that I pay £1 for Red Nose day. I refused to do so because I did not join in any games, and I can give my money to whoever I like. I hope that these Red Nose Day people are not encouraging their contact people in these businesses to force money out of people!
It's now Monday and the demands have changed. I have to give my £1 to the girl that won the competition, because she must take her share for winning the competition. There is no way in hell that I am going to give money to someone. I can donate to charity, but I am not donating to someone else. This is now bordering on madness if the Receptionist thinks that I am going to play this game with her. Anyway, she has sent out an email telling everyone how much was raised, and adding a note at the bottom of the email that I owe money. I am not going to even get involved in this nonsense, I will just ignore it! I passed her desk and she asked me for my money, AGAIN! I told her that I donated directly to the charity and she said "oh?"
A colleague of mine said don't even fight about it, just give her the money otherwise she will just go on and on about it. I refuse because I will not be spoken to like a child and I did not participate in any Red Nose Charity events, because it's not a requirement. The people at work already think badly of me so it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks to be perfectly honest. They can call me what ever they want! The Receptionist and the Complaint Girl have already blackened my name, and HR have done nothing about it!
On the plus side, I started saying a Novena that I found starring at me in Church last week. IT was a Novena to St. Jude to pray for me. I had to try the Novena because St. Jude was the Saint I used when I got confirmed as a Catholic when I was a teenager. Prayer is very powerful to all of you who are not sure if God exists at all! Try praying, it really does work. I have since attended a job interview on Friday and have been offered the position before I left the interview, a bit of a result if you ask me! I have a few more potential interviews lined up which I hope will resolve my work life issues.

Change Will Never Come
Well nothing will ever change in this office. I went to make a cup of tea this morning and I asked openly in the office, so everyone could hear, for one of the men to change the water bottle for me in the cooler. You see, we use the water from the cooler to fill the kettle, it prevents the excess build up of limescale. Before I asked one of the men to help, I did ask everyone of they wanted a cup of tea or coffee. The complaint girl declined a drink. She then proceeded to shout across the room to the man putting a new water bottle in the cooler to put the kettle on. Wait a minute, did she not understand me? So I went and asked again if anyone would like a cup. She declined a second time. So I made tea for those who wanted and as soon as I left the kitchen, she shuffled in and made herself a cup of tea. How childish? She is really been silly, and she is deliberately excluding me from anything that happens in the office and outside the office.
The Receptionist has not been collecting my post since the last time that I told you about it. I really cannot be bothered. I know that if I complain, she is going to give some stupid excuse and try and blame me for it Or she will say it’s not my job to collect post, well I know that it’s not her job to collect my post, because I am the only one that she doesn’t collect from. So you know what, I will just leave the post and see if that then creates a problem! It definitely won’t be my problem.
And last week Friday, there was a problem where a client was paying for a service that he did not have for 2 years. My senior colleague invited our new team member to discuss it with the Manager so he is aware how to deal with these situations. I was not invited to this discussion, even though I am the next in line if my Senior Colleague is not in the office. I by chance went to collect a something that I had sent to the printer, and my Senior Colleague then calls me over and says, “if you want to hear this then come over!” Thanks, I fell really appreciated now! It feels almost as if they are waiting for me to resign and get out. They will never discuss any problems I have with the complaint girl because she works in a division of the company that makes the biggest profit in our department, and she has been doing it for a couple of years. The Receptionist has been in trouble before and she has gotten out of the mess many times before, so that is a no-brainer. HR has failed to improve my wellbeing and act like they don’t care. I initially told them how these issues were affecting my health. So what do they do, armed with the information that I gave them (me being truthful, how stupid!), they warm me that if I take any days of sick I will have to take them as unpaid. How compassionate? I suppose rules are rules!
On the plus side, My Manager told me that he is really glad that I work for him and he wouldn’t know what he would do without me! How sweet of him, and I know he meant what he said! Also, the only person I can turn to in the office is back from holiday, so that has put a smile on my face this morning! Let’s hope that everyone else’s attitude changes too! I’m tired of trying to be myself because I just get it thrown back in my face. I am at a loss as to how I can go forward in this office without someone trying to pull me back.

Sunshine, you are my sunshine!
Glorious Monday, the Sun is out, the birds are chirping away and everyone has a smile on their face. When you grow up in Africa, you take for granted what nature offers you. There is the climbing of trees, eating fresh fruit that is just ripe off the fruit trees. I remember making good use of both ripe and raw fruit. Raw mangoes make sure that any constipation that you may be experiencing will be a thing of the past. When dipped in a mixture of vinegar, salt and chilli powder, you get the most intense sharp and sour taste that you can never re-create in any cooking style.
And you learn so many other things about fruit. You know that fruit is ready by holding it and twisting gently. If it comes off the tree, it is ripe, and 99% of the time, is sweet. If it doesn't come off, just leave it and try again tomorrow! My favourite was to break a branch off a lychee tree that was full of Lychees. We would then sit on the pavements on the side of the road and indulge in the most fantastic meal ever. Oh, yes and my favourites, black, big, juicy mulberries. The best time to eat these was straight after it had finished rain. The rain cleans them and you just pick them off the tree and munch away. Yes, you hands get the most difficult to remove purple stains and your mouth provides the evidence that you have been eating mulberries. Yes, the amount of times my bum has been warmed up for eating "dirty fruit" was all well worth the few moments of pleasure!
And if the sun can do all this to fruit, imagine the goodness that it will do to your skin? I hope everyone reading this takes my advise, get as much sun as possible. Not only does it improve the condition of your skin, it must also produce some type of "good feeling" chemicals in your body, because I cannot remember every feeling depressed or down whilst living in Africa. And I had less in Africa than I have now!
I love the warm weather, and I think the warm weather loves me!
Don't forget, the lighter your skin colour, the more careful you need to be about prolonged exposure to the sun. Don't use that sun block cream, just allow you skin to darken up naturally by slowly exposing it to the sun. I believe in the most natural ways of living, like relying on good old fashion things like vitamin E oil to help keep you looking younger. You can't use vitamin E for a year and expect results, but if you use it on you face and neck your whole life, I will personally guarantee that you will look younger than you should. If you see my mother, you will not believe that she is old enough to be my mother!
I was just reading and watching the news about the problems in my home country. It makes me desperately upset that the people I am from are suffering. There is nothing I can do because of my commitments, but if I could satisfy my commitments and try and help my people, I would! I am one of the many people that took the easy way out and left the country to live abroad where life is good and the basic living standards are above average. That is why I take my hat of to people that both through choice and "do or die" attitude have not given up trying to bring about a change in my home country. These people are the real "freedom fighters". They are fighting for freedom from discrimination and slavery of a system that is designed to break you if your views are not the same as those in power. Democracy was brought to Africa, and although the system should form some part of society, I believe that uniting cultural law into society will benefit the nation as a whole. We cannot discard centuries of history for democracy, we can join them for a law that works for the people, something that the people already understand and live by!
Zimbabwe will always be in my heart, and one day, I will take my children to see the greatness of the people and the land!
I saw something funny the other day that paid tribute to a black sportsman that was trying to inspire kids from the deprived area he grew up in himself. I laughed to myself and really thought that this is just promoting the idea of racial division, and incites racism too, because the area is a known area that ethnic minorities live in London. His PR people obviously are towing the official "we are giving back to the community" line, probably just in time for the launch of his new sportswear range! They should be promoting the fact that he is an extraordinary athlete and not that he is black. Through my experiences with both white and black people that have not had the first hand opportunity to experience racism, I think this concept is difficult to understand! Everyone tries to redress the black/white imbalance rather than promoting achievements regardless of colour. So what if more white people achieve more than any other race. That should be enough incentive for other races to pull their thumbs out and beat them at their own game!

Please Help!
I have not really had the opportunity to air my views, but today is really, I could not have not logged on to do so!
I have had my Senior Colleague checking everything I do! I mean everything. He comments when I have 2 spaces in between words and is actually checking the amount of work I do. He makes as if I have nothing to do. I don't know if he is just in a mood and something outside work is bothering him, or the big mistakes that he has made in the last few days have finally caught up with him and if he makes another mistake, his head will be on the block. Yesterday, I even said to him, "Would you like me to walk out and walk back in and maybe we can start the day afresh!". He was swearing, f'ing and blinding, I even had to remind him where he was. He did however apologise, but I know he didn't mean it!
He then asked me to do a quote yesterday which I did, and he asked someone else to convert the quote into a sale, without telling me why. The lady who asked for the quote knows me well so she always asks for me. But this time, she didn't ask for me, she asked for the guy who was converting the quote into a sale, so someone told her to contact him because she wouldn't know that is what he does. So I do all the hard work and someone else takes the glory for it, nice!
It's starting to get really difficult to ignore all the things that are going on in the office that seem to be about me. I have just found out that in my team, I am the only person that has not been invited into the lottery syndicate. I didn't know whether I had to ask to be invited into it, but I do know for a fact that 2 people were invited.
I also laughed when I realised that someone that has just finished their probation, has sided with the Receptionist and went to lunch with them today. Well, I can't complain, I cannot force anyone to hang around with anyone. This same person, and the Complaint girl have started to dress like me, sleeveless jersey over a plain coloured top. Well, at least I have become a fashion icon!
This afternoon, the person who sits next to me in the office left the office early after working in his lunch hour, and guess what? He didn't have to make a record of it in the office diary, but I do!
I had asked for the company to do my examinations which they have told me they will not pay for the extra course material that I require, so I have decided to do the course with my own money! At least they had the decency to email me and confirm this, although they only did after I requested they do!
And last but not least, they have removed my access to my Senior Colleague's email. They have not given me a reason why, but have taken it away. To me it seems that they are reducing my responsibilities slowly but surely. I think I should start making a record of the work I do everyday so they cannot try and get rid of me by saying there is no work.
Anyway, I am still looking for another job and I really have decided that no matter what, I will not be here come May!
If you have been reading my blog, you might be able to comment on this! As you know I complained about some abuse towards me. HR subsequently came in and tried to deal with the matter. They didn't and the abuse got worse as it now mutated into something else and someone else got involved. HR did not protect me. Don't they have a case to answer?
I was then accused of disrupting someone's working day which HR proved to be incorrect. My working day was disrupted by this meeting, which was officially called by the person who made the complaint, can I make a complaint?
Any comments will be most welcome!
